“‘My greatest fear is that we have all of this momentum and it dies for lack of a follow-up,’ Schultz said before making the motion to establish the subcommittee.

The joint subcommittee will meet quarterly and consist of the mayor and vice mayor of the city of Burbank, the city manager as well as the school board president and vice president and the school district’s superintendent.”

“Schultz has a young daughter and a baby on the way. Burbank will be their hometown, so while the council member is listening to all sides of this ongoing debate, his most important constituents are his kids.

’I do not want them to grow up in a world where active shooter training and mass shootings are common,’ he said. ‘They don’t deserve that. We all collectively deserve better.’”

“Councilman Nick Schultz led the push to revise the plan, saying that he was disappointed with the consultant group the city hired to help draft it.

’I don’t think this plan is complete, and I don’t think it’s ready to be approved,’ he said. ‘This is our guiding document to tackle an increasingly growing problem in our community and in the region,’ Schultz added. ‘Specifics matter, details matter, accountability to the public matters.’”

“Community members for years have expressed concerns about speeding on Glenoaks, saying that the line of green traffic signals at night encourages drivers to use the street as a racetrack — a notion to which Councilman Nick Schultz alluded during the meeting.

“Just minutes before their meeting was scheduled to begin Tuesday evening, council members Nick Schultz and Konstantine Anthony briefly met with demonstrators outside city hall, thanking them for being there and pledging to address their concerns.

“As a candidate, I advocated for the creation of a Burbank Economic Recovery Taskforce. Last month, the City Council voted unanimously to re-purpose one of our existing sub-committees and create an Economic Recovery Sub-Committee comprised of Vice Mayor Talamantes, Councilmember Springer, and city staff. Earlier this week, the Sub-Committee hosted their first community meeting with restaurant owners and operators.

[It] will work over the following months to ensure that we adopt comprehensive economic recovery plans for Burbank that balance the protection of employees and the public, with the continued economic livelihood of our community”

“[Councilman] Anthony, Vice Mayor Jess Talamantes and Councilman Nick Schultz supported starting hazard pay, saying that it would provide compensation for Burbank workers who have faced frequent contact with the public — including some who refused to wear face coverings.”

“Schultz first requested the council consider an ordinance capping third-party delivery fees in January.
